About the Gym
Thai Brasil Floripa carries genuine pedigree. Founded in 2007 on Praia dos Ingleses by Mestre Marcio Malko, it's the camp where Marina Rodriguez — who went on to become a top-ranked UFC strawweight, as high as number three in the world — began her muay thai journey from a complete beginner's class. Malko remains her muay thai coach to this day. But the gym is far from elite-only. Members describe a training centre that uses the discipline of the sport to develop people as much as athletes, welcoming everyone from first-timers to high-performance fighters. There's a dedicated women's muay thai group that members speak warmly about, multiple class times, and an emphasis on respect, self-control and wellbeing rather than aggression. Marcio Malko
Mestre Marcio Malko founded Thai Brasil Floripa in 2007 and is the long-time muay thai coach of former UFC strawweight contender Marina Rodriguez, whom he spotted and developed from her first beginner's class. He leads a team spanning professionals, amateurs and recreational students.
