Vanquish Muay Thai & Fitness
Colombo

Vanquish is where Sri Lanka's current top-level Muay Thai talent actually trains. Founded in 2019 by Vimukthi Abeynayake (17+ years of martial arts experience, certified under both the World Boxing Council Muay Thai in Thailand and the Muay Thai Academy of America, plus a certified ring official under the WBC), the gym has built a coaching team that few addresses anywhere can match for current competitive credentials. Assistant coach Gevin Linden holds the WBC Muay Thai Sri Lanka National Champion title (75kg, 2023) and the IFMA National Muay Thai Champion title (75kg, 2025), with a 12-2 record across 4 professional and 10 amateur bouts. In 2024 he became the first Sri Lankan to compete in the Thai Fight League, facing Thai superstar Kittisak in a traditional rope-wrapped fist bout. Assistant coach Giridharan Kaneson holds the WBC Muay Thai Sri Lanka Amateur Champion (67kg, 2025) and IFMA National Muay Thai Champion (71kg, 2025) titles, with a 10-5 record, and has represented Sri Lanka at the Amazing Muaythai Festival in Thailand (2024) and Italy (2025). For anyone serious about active training under coaches who are themselves actively competing at the international level, this is the address.

About the Gym

The class structure spans kids' programs, mixed-level group classes, and one-on-one personal training with each of the three coaches at different price points (Coach Vimukthi sessions being the premium tier). Group classes follow a tiered monthly system: Rs.8,000 for 8 classes per month up to Rs.14,500 for unlimited 16 classes, with multi-month commitments offering substantial savings (3 months Rs.34,500, 6 months Rs.60,000, 12 months Rs.96,000 for full access). Personal training packages run from 4 sessions (Rs.22,000-28,000 depending on coach) to 12 sessions (Rs.66,000-84,000). The facility includes a full-sized boxing ring, specialized Muay Thai equipment, and dedicated bag space. The gym also has plans to launch the Muay Thai Development League (MDL), an amateur tournament series designed to give junior fighters fair matchups within experience tiers (Novice, C Class, B Class, Elite) rather than mismatched bouts against far more experienced opponents. That kind of forward-looking institutional thinking is rare. One practical note: the gym sits in Kolonnawa, slightly east of central Colombo, but remains accessible.

Vimukthi Abeynayake

Head Coach & Founder

Vimukthi Abeynayake started in martial arts at age 5, beginning formal karate training at 12 despite limited family support, training with mannequins from his father's factory and kicking trees to toughen up. In 2011 he represented Sri Lanka at an Asian competition, finishing 4th despite competing with two broken ribs. He transitioned from karate to Muay Thai after his father's cancer diagnosis, using the sport as a coping mechanism. He is certified under both the World Boxing Council Muay Thai (Thailand) and the Muay Thai Academy of America, and serves as a certified ring official under the WBC. After coaching at Knees and Knuckles starting in 2018, he founded Vanquish in 2019 to provide the kind of structured mentorship he says he never had as a young fighter.
