About the Gym
VBC Bardagaíþróttir functions as a community combat sports center for the Reykjavik metropolitan area. The multi-discipline model means trainees can cross-train across BJJ, boxing, and Muay Thai under a single membership, which is uncommon in markets this size.
The coaching team is structured per discipline. Tomas Einar Torres leads Muay Thai. Daði Steinn coaches BJJ. Armandas Sangavicius runs the boxing program. Each coach handles their own beginner courses and intermediate progression, which keeps quality of instruction higher than gyms where one coach tries to cover multiple disciplines.
For trainees specifically seeking Muay Thai, the program is solid but not the gym's singular focus. Reviewers consistently mention the welcoming atmosphere, the warmth of the training space, and the family-friendly culture. The kids and youth program (ages 3-17) is one of the most developed in Iceland, with leisure grants from five municipalities reducing the cost barrier for families.
Pricing is straightforward. The standard subscription is kr 14.990 per month with a four-month minimum commitment and one-month notice for cancellation. A single-month pass at kr 19.900 is available for trial users or those not wanting to commit. Beginner courses (kr 23.990) include two free weeks of intermediate classes after completion.
